The wedge is the club for your short game: short, high shots to the green, chips and shots out of the bunker. Wedges have the most loft of all your golf clubs, so the ball climbs high and stops quickly. Below you'll read which wedges there are and which lofts you need.
Wedges are distinguished by loft; the higher the loft, the higher and shorter the ball flies:
Your wedges follow on from your irons: where your iron set ends, your wedge setup begins. Around the green you combine them with a chipper for simple chips and the putter on the green. Grip worn out? Replace it with a fresh grip — wedge grips wear fastest.

A wedge is a high-lofted golf club made for short, accurate shots to the green, chips and bunker shots. The high loft launches the ball steeply so it stops quickly on the green. Together with your short irons, wedges are your scoring clubs.
Most golfers play with two to four wedges. A common setup is a pitching wedge and a sand wedge, optionally with a gap wedge and a lob wedge. Choose the lofts so the distance gaps between your wedges are even.
A sand wedge usually has 54 to 56 degrees of loft, a lob wedge 58 to 60 degrees. The pitching wedge sits around 44 to 48 degrees and the gap wedge in between, around 50 to 52 degrees.
