What golf club length do you need? It depends on your height and the distance from your wrist to the floor. Measure both and use the chart below to see how much longer or shorter than standard your clubs should be.
The chart shows how many inches longer (+) or shorter (-) than the manufacturer's standard length your clubs should be.
| Your height | Wrist to floor | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|---|
| > 205 cm | > 99 cm | +2" | +3" |
| 190-205 cm | 102-106 cm | +1.5" | +2.5" |
| 190-205 cm | 96-101 cm | +1" | +2" |
| 168-189 cm | 96-99 cm | +0.5" | +1.5" |
| 168-189 cm | 88-95 cm | Standard | +1" |
| 168-189 cm | 80-87 cm | -0.5" | +0.5" |
| 153-168 cm | 82-85 cm | -1" | Standard |
| 153-168 cm | 77-81 cm | -1.5" | -0.5" |
| < 153 cm | < 77 cm | -2" | -1" |
First find the row that matches your height, then check which wrist-to-floor measurement goes with it. Two people of the same height can have different arm lengths, and that's exactly why the club length they need differs. If you fall between two rows, let the wrist-to-floor measurement decide. Women's clubs are shorter than men's as standard, which is why the columns differ.
Club lengths are given in inches. One inch is 2.54 cm, so to convert centimetres, divide by 2.54. Lengthening a club by half an inch adds about 1.3 cm.
Length is the starting point, but a club also needs to fit in other ways:

If your size differs from standard, clubs can be lengthened, shortened or you can have a complete custom golf set made. Looking for a standard set? See the men's golf sets and women's golf sets.
Measure your height and the distance from your wrist to the floor, wearing golf shoes with your arms relaxed. Look up both in the chart; it shows how many inches longer or shorter than standard your clubs should be.
With clubs that are too long you stand too upright and often strike the ball off the heel; with clubs that are too short you bend over too far and strike it more off the toe. Both cost consistency and can affect ball flight.
They can, but on standard clubs this often voids the manufacturer's warranty. When buying new clubs, a set built to measure by the manufacturer is usually the better choice. Not every set is available as a custom build; read more about custom golf sets.
