What is golf grip tape?

Golf grip tape is double-sided tape that goes between the shaft and the grip. During fitting, grip solvent makes the adhesive temporarily slippery so the grip slides over the shaft. Once the solvent has evaporated, the tape bonds on both sides and the grip is locked in place. Without good tape a grip can twist, and you'll notice that straight away in your shot.

A roll or a complete regripping set

  • Roll of double-sided tape – our 50-metre golf grip tape is 5 cm wide and suitable for steel and graphite shafts. Plenty to regrip several complete sets, handy if you change your own grips regularly.
  • Complete regripping set – the key essentials in one pack, ideal if you're regripping your clubs yourself for the first time.

How to apply grip tape

Remove the old grip and all tape residue, and clean and dry the shaft. Cut a strip of tape slightly shorter than the grip, apply it lengthwise firmly and without creases, then peel off the backing. Wet the tape and the inside of the grip with solvent and slide the grip over the shaft in one smooth movement. Line it up straight away and let it dry according to the grip and solvent instructions.

An extra layer for a thicker grip

Grip tape also lets you fine-tune grip thickness. Each extra layer under the grip, known as build-up tape, makes the grip slightly thicker. That way you get a grip that fits your hand better, without having to buy a midsize or jumbo grip.

Take care with graphite shafts

Removing an old grip calls for care. A blade that cuts too deep can damage a graphite shaft. Always cut away from your body and work slowly. If in doubt, have your grips replaced: buy new golf grips from us and have them fitted in our shop in Uitgeest.

Frequently asked questions about golf grip tape

Do I need solvent with grip tape?

Yes, with the usual fitting method you do. The solvent makes the tape temporarily slippery so the grip slides over the shaft. Without solvent the grip gets stuck halfway.

Can grip tape be used on a graphite shaft?

Yes, our double-sided tape suits both steel and graphite shafts. Take extra care when removing the old grip so you don't damage the shaft.

How much grip tape do I need per club?

You use one strip per club, slightly shorter than the grip, plus an extra layer if you want a thicker grip. So a 50-metre roll lets you regrip a lot of clubs.

Can I use ordinary double-sided tape?

Better not. Grip tape is made to work with solvent and then bond firmly. Ordinary double-sided tape can come loose, which makes your grip twist.
